Mask Making Process Photos

These are a few photos of the process I went through to produce the custom Goblin Masks for this Production. I needed to have nine total masks that had the ability to be easily put on and removed as well as allowed the actors freedom of movement in their face as they would be singing while wearing them.

I decided to use a product called foam clay to build the masks for its lightweight properties as well as the freedom to sculpt character into each mask. I used a paper mask blank as my base, covered in saran wrap and built the base structure. To preserve the flexibility of the foam, I used spray plasti-dip to create a base layer sealant.

For paint I used a few colors of acrylic paint and stippling techniques to create texture. I also used wool roving and needle felting techniques to create the eyebrows and give the masks life.
